I have the VRX model. The car cranks, has compression and I have visually confirmed the timing belt is intact and turning. It is throwing a DTC of P1610 which the internet tells me is an immobilizer issue. However, unlike all of the descriptions of immobilizer issues the security light does not blink ever or turn on at all. I have visually confirmed that the immobilizer unit is in place. The serial number is A2312BFC.
In reading the TSB related to the temporary code I would need the security light to work to properly input the brake pedal presses to temporarily allow me to start the car.

Also the TCL light and the "TCL off" lights are constantly on. I am not sure if this is normal and they would turn of if the car were to start or if this is a symptom of a bad ECM.

The car has not been driven in over two years and the story I was given was that it ran fine one evening and refused to start the next day.

Does the Immobilizer have a battery in it? Is there a way to tell if the unit has gone bad?
Thanks in advance!

Hello,

It sounds like the key lost is programming which happens, but first I would check the fuses that run the system.

https://www.2carpros.com/articles/how-to-check-a-car-fuse

Please check fuses: 3, 9, 13 and 19.

Check out the diagrams (below).

Please let us know what you find.

Cheers, Ken

Thanks for the diagrams, very helpful information! I have checked the fuses under the dash thoroughly. I have looked at the engine compartment fuses but I will give them a more thorough look when I get back home later this week.
I have disassembled the instrument panel and confirmed that the security light is not burned out. I happened to find the same part number listed online and ordered it. It was listed as a traction control unit which makes sense because the “TCL” AND “TCL OFF” lights have both been on. If the old unit is bad I should just need the serial specific pin to temporarily bypass the new one to start the car twice.
Do you know were I can get a bypass pin for the new serial number? S/N: A238D566

I believe the dealer is the only one that can give bypass codes? You may need to bit the bullet and have the dealer or a shop reprogram it for you.

We are interested to see what it is.

Breakthrough! I received the replacement immobilizer today and installed it. I immediately began getting the security light flashes after the first crank and it was obvious the brake pedal pushes were registering. I was about to go inside and begin the process of getting an online tech to give me the bypass code for the new immobilizer when I put the original unit back in on a whim. EUREKA! Three years since its last start it fired immediately and began to run. I have found a few more issues and its not road ready but it runs!

So you didn't use the kit? Where did you get the kit and what does it look like? If the original unit started working it could have had a bad connection at the connector.

No kit. It was just a used immobilizer from another car. Definitely was not a connection issue because I had had the immobilizer out several times checking the pins and wires. Best I can figure is the replacement unit reset the ECU somehow. I replaced the belts and am hopeful that when the new throttle position sensor comes in I can drive it.

Throttle position sensor installed and good. Put it in gear and nothing. It mechanically shifts in to gear and the indicator light changes on the dash. The engine even changes speed indicating that the transmission speed sensors are working. But no dice. The fluid is full and a nice light red color and does not smell burnt. The best I can figure is the solenoids in the transmission are not engaging. Do you have a wiring diagram for the transmission components?
