Water pump damaged by mechanic?

Hello! I drive a 1998 Nissan 200SX with about 100K, 1.6 L engine.

i have always done minor repairs on my own, and thus had never been to a mechanic in my new home of Los Angeles until I had an oil leak that required them to fix the crank seal. A couple of days later, my landlord noticed I was leaking coolant. Turns out my water pump is leaking.

would it be plausible that they damaged the water pump while doing the other repair, or is it just a coincidence?

Yes. The water pump is on the top. And I don't see any reason they get close to it for fixing a frt crank seal. Real simple u wanna be sure. Just chk if coolant is leaking thru the weep hole then it is natural.A pure coincident. Any pry, broken telltales sign from where the leaks coming from should be the other way around.

Thanks. I had a feeling it was a coincidence, but I kinda hate it. I will be doing my water pump myself, though. Just me and my Haynes.
