I have a 2002 Nissan Maxima SE with 78K and just recently I noticed that when I turn on the heater, speeds 1 & 2 are not working but 3 & 4 are. What can the problem be and is it an expensive repair? I am out of work so the cheaper the better. Thanks for your help.

It is your blower motor resistor taking a dive on you. If you look behind your glove compartment right next to the blower motor, you will see a rectangular box with 4-clip wire harness. That is your resistor. Go to your friendly, local Nissan dealer and request a "Blower Motor Resistor". Bring in your VIN as well. If the parts counter guy isn't as knowledgeable, he will ask for the VIN to see which one. The difference is either you have manual, automatic and auto w/ navi.
