My car was making a rattling sound while idling. The dealer said that I need new ignition plugs, and the est was, 000$. Sounds like a lot for what used to be called spark plugs, I think. Jerry

Hi jresnick,

I think should be ignition coils, the plugs are still there.

A distributorless engine will use a coil for each plug, but it is not necessary to replace every coil. Just replace the defective one and it won't cost so much.

Thanks for your response. The dealer said that since 3 were bad, the others would need replacing soon, so why not do them all at once. JResnick

Hi jresnick,

Since 3 were bad, 1 more would not cause extreme differences.

Ask the deler to tag the good 1 and keep it. Electrical components are unpredictable.
