Bought a nice little '94 Nissan Maxima XE, low mileage, body very nice, engine sounds great. Within two weeks transmission "dropped" a gear or two. You can see the linkage rod (don't know what it's really called) move when you shift gears but it will not go into reverse and my son had to drive home in 2nd gear. Is this a common problem with this make/model car? What (range) can I expect to pay for a rebuilt or new transmission job?

Hi there,
Thank you for the donation,

This is not what I would call a common problem, the exact cause of your problem could be a number of issues, what I would recommend that you do next is go to a transmission specialist and first get a test & report done, they should be able to pin point this and give you an estimate on the repair, I feel that a full re build may be a bit premature thinking, get t he test done first.
