Nissan Altima Repair Question

If my CV joint breaks or the entire axle comes out of the car all together, what will happen if I am driving it? I know for a fact that my outer joint is messed up because of the popping noises that I receive when turning. I have another car that I am driving until I know what will happen to this one if the joint breaks. Please help. Thank you.

I recently replace both side of my 98 altima it was really simple all i used for a guide was a chiltons manual and jack stands are required but the process was very easy
