Engine Mechanical problem
2000 Nissan Altima 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I just replaced the motor but it did not come with distributer. How do I put the motor on time before installing my distributor?

Hi there, some distributors come with an off set drive so it can only be installed in one position, if no, locate TDC No1 by removing all plugs and have some one crank the engine in very short clicks with your finger over the plug hole, when you feel compression building up turn the crank by hand the rest of the way to TDC as indicated on the timing scale, remove the dist cap and place a small paint spot on the dist body in line with No 1 lead position, when inserting dist you will have to turn the shaft back a few teeth so when it is fitted the rotor will re align with the make as it turns on the spline, as long as the dist adjuster is about central, this should be close enough to start and re set timing with timing light.
