1999 montero sport 3.0 v-6. 126,000 miles. The montero has no power. Origionally it died and my niece had it towed to a shop and they put on a fuel pump and filter. Then it had no power. So they put on a timing belt and tuned it up with new plugs and a crank censor. Still no power. She took it to another shop and they put on another timing belt and then it wouldnt run at all. So to help her out I looked at it. It was out of gas so we put gas in it and it leaked fuel from the injector fuel rales. We replaced one injector that I thought wes bent and put on new o rings. This stopped the fuel leaks. But still no power. I removed the catalytic converter this was no help either. By no power I mean it starts not well, verry hard to start when it is hot, runs about 25 - 30 miles per hour and wont go any faster. I think it is not running on right bank cyl. 2-4-6 the intake ports are clean on these and carboned on cyl 1-3-5. Electronics checked by dealer and another shop show to be ok compression is 175-185

The intake ports could be due to the way the pcv enters the engine. If it was only running on half the engine I dont think it would even start at all. Does this truck have a Mass Airflow Meter? If so it could very well be the problem. The MAF meters fuel by the amount of air it sees entering the engine

Thanks for the prompt response. The dealer said it was good or checked out good on there computer anyalysis. Another shop did a computer anylaysis and couldnt find any electlical componente that showed bad. I agree with the not running on 3 cylinders but if I pull the plug wires off on 2=4=6 it still runs if I just pull the plug wite on any of the 1-3-5 the engine dies. The dealer said if the maf was bad it would have shown on the computer analysis. But I dont know. By the way the dealer doesnt know what is wrong with it either they sugested to put in a new engine. Could the computer brain be bad letting it run funny thanks dave

A new engine wont solve anything. The dealer couldnt figure this out? Need a "noid" light to test for pulse at the fuel injectors of the cylinders that arent working. Check every fuse you can find in pass and engine comp. They all get power from same place. Could be the PCM, but lets check a few things first

I have replaced the fuel injector on #2 cylinder, no help either. I was wondering if there were any components that opperated the right bank that didnt affect the left. The coil pacs are staggered with odd and even numbers of cylinders on each. Wouldnt the mass air flow censor affect all cylinders? But I can replace it if you think it is bad. What is a pcm? My back ground is that I work on old cars and boats befor computers. Like 1950 studebakers. I have checked all the plug ends and things in line. My sister has spend over 2500 dollars on this thing so far and still no go thanks for your help

With key on check for power at injectors that arent working. You can rig a small light bulb to hook up to the injector plugs to be sure they all flash when engine is cranked. When doing this, unplug all injectors, if it flashes, plug that one back in. If one is shorting out it will kill the others when plugged in. The PCM is the trucks computer management system (Powertrain Control Module). Any Stude's in particular? My brother and I have been building a 51 pickup.

Does the car run better when cold and power loss after hot? What happen when you unplug mass air flow sensor? Does car run good? If so your problem is your fuel controller. Located R/F pass kick panel.
