no heater

Hi, I recently purchased a 1997 Mercury Sable GS 138,XXX miles. Strangely the heater does not work, but i have AC. There is a clicking noise comming from under the stereo when i turn the temperature to cold, when temperature is turned away from cold the clicking becomes a thuk, thuk. So I hear click,click and thuk,thuk???????

this is a ford question but welcome anyway. it sounds like a vacume booster to the heat exchange door. the door may just be stuck. none the less, it is a ford, been there done that, not again!
