2003 Mercury Mountaineer over drive light

Why would the over drive light blink steadly and the check transmission on the info panel come on? This is a sealed transmission.

I am having the same issue. I had the engine rebuilt 2yrs ago and I was told the Ford shop that I would need another transmission rebuilt. The first time I only had 80k miles, and I now have 94k and I'm told I need an engine rebuilt $3000. It's insane!
