I am having trouble changing the fuel pump on my cougar. We have got to the pump through the back seat of the car and we can see the pump but are having issues getting the pump to come out. Theres wires connected to it. Do you pull the wires? And if so how? We dont want to break it in any way. I have heard the fuel pump of this model was recalled? Is that possibly why the fuel pump I purchased at auto zone looks nothing like the fuel pump im looking at in the car? Can you please give me some specific steps as to how to change the fuel pump?

This is not a replacement hole. This is only an access hole so that you don't have to drop the tank to test the pump.

If you need to replace the pump, then you have to drop the tank.

Some people cut the hole larger, but I would never recommend using anything but metal cutting shears. No sparks around the tank.

I am attaching the info from the manual to show how to replace this.

Please run through this info and let me know if you have questions.

Thanks
