I have a 4-matic C240 wagon (2003). The symptom is a strange rattle at low speeds, usually brough on by a bump in the road. Not a continual rattle, just periodic and not noticed over about 30 MPH. Sounds wheel/suspension like. Definately front end. I had iot looked at twice with no resolution, first time they put on new brakes/rotors, second time, they noticed a cracked axle and replaced. Neither of there got rid of the symptom.

If it is a low rattle kind of like a something in a tin can then you have a failed catalytic converter. When these fail they break down in the hosuing and being to rattle esp. Noticable at low speeds.
