1985 Mercedes Benz 300td Stalls after starting
Engine Mechanical problem
1985 Mercedes Benz 300td Two Wheel Drive Automatic 194000 miles
I turn the key, wait for the glow plug light to go out, turn it further, engine fires, then dies. If I press the accelerator down about halfway and pump up the RPM to between 2000 to 3000 for about a minute, it settles around 750 RPM and will stay there. Bad Compression? How to fix? Rebuild?

first thing to do, is check your fuel lines it sounds like you're sucking air, second of all check your primary filter that is the small one down by the injection pump, if you go to start it in the morning and that filter is empty the fuel is draining out of the system, and remember when it is cold outside gave your Mercedes full throttle to start
