My Protege has a bad miss, like it's running on 3 cylinders.A lot of shaking, sounds awful.

In reading up on the subject 2 things were suggested: change plug wires or replace a coil. Does this sound right? There are I believe 2 coils, would they be the same? I'm thinking of just buying one and trying to substitute it for the bad one if that's the problem. Any suggestions? I made the mistake of resetting the computer so I don't know what error message might show up. By the way, the check engine light flashes when started.

HELP, PLEASE. DON'T HAVE THE MONEY TO BUY ANOTHER CAR. THANKS.

OK first off if it has only lost on cylinder then a coil is probably not the problem. Now if you would call around to your local parts store and find one that will do a free scan and have you car scanned and write down the codes and then have them clear it and get back to me with what you find.

Found the problem, it was not a coil. Cylinder had a spark plug that rattled, it must have broken. Don't ask me how. Replaced it and it works fine. Thanks for the help.
