Check the plenum for cracks, unmetered air intake will cause problems with air fuel mixture. Check gasket at MAF sensor and tube ends as well. Use spray throttle body cleaner and spray all vacuum ports and hoses and air intake, a leak is found when the engine idle changes. Keep spray away from hot exhaust! It is flammable!

Have you tried to read any stored codes? Is the check engine light on? And if you have a clutch type cooling fan, the extra noise and engine load may be due to a defective fan clutch.

I have replaced my Clucth type cooling fan assemble 4 weeks ago .It still only does it once in awhile and is still Very hard on Gas . Oh mileage is 164,400KM. About two years ago when I had my mechanic look at it had codes 171 &174 lean fuel/air codes both banks. HE cleaned the Oxgen Sensor and cleared thecodes ???.No codes came back ?? The KM's don't mean much to a guy from Boston, Miles per gallon! Lean codes would probably vacuum leaks and or weak fuel pump, test the fuel pressure.

TO merlin 2021 I found the problem with the vaccum cleaner sound under the hood.It was the Idie Air Control Vavle,I will replace it.To get km. to miles you divide by 1.6 so 165000km is 103125m. I will let you know if this gives me any better gas milage etc.
