My car was smoking real bad and was making a loud noise when you crank it. Now it will not crank. I was told my battery was dead, but I am trying to see why it is smoking. When I used to drive it it will drive slow then pick up speed all of a sudden.

What color smoke do you see? Is the engine using coolant? Have you replaced or charged the battery and tried to do a re start?

Hi and thanks for using 2CarPros.com.

If the smoke was white, it sounds like you may have a bad head gasket. White smoke usually indicates that engine coolant is getting into the combustion chamber. Here is a test to determine if there is an issue with the head gasket:

Follow that link and let us know what you find.

Take care,
Joe
