bad alternator

i have a 94 mazda 626 es and it wont start we got the battery replaced and it started a few times but now it wont even turn over i thought it was the battery but we have a new one and my charge light stays on when ever its turned on it has about 170,000 miles and we've had the distributor replaced a year or so agoi'm thinking its either the alternator or starter oh yeah it cut off once while driving down the highway and i got it jumped and the same thing happened again and it cut off today while running

You are going to have to have your alternator checked. Be sure your battery is fully charged. Battery voltage should be Engine off- 11.5 to 12 volts.
Engine running- 13.5 to 15volts
