Transmission problem
1994 Mazda 626 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

The car is hesitating when starting out in first gear. When it finally goes, it shifts hard. Does this problem mean it needs a new transmission or just the fluid replaced?

Check the transmission fluid condition and level if you wish just change the fluid and filter-Don't work bring it in and have the transmission pressure tested.
Also an engine that's in badly need of a tune-up will affect the how the transmision functions.
