My water pump went bad so I replaced it. Then right after that my alternator went, did not even get it out of the drive. Replaced that. I proceeded to replace all the pulleys except for power steering and A/C compressor. The harmonic balancer was the last thing that went so I replaced that. Had a problem lining up the belt. Someone put in my head that the part was wrong, about 1/16 separate me from driving again. Everything lined up except for the balancer and the A/C compressor. I am not he-man, I gave all I got until I could not turn the installer nut anymore. So then I remembered that someone told me to measure the inside of the balance from old to new. I remember that the old one was about 1/16 deeper than the new one. My question is, could I drill out 1/16 from the balancer or shave off 1/16 off the crankshaft with a grinder?

Hello,

If I was you I would hit the nut with an air impact to continue the install the balancer. Please do not try to grind anything to fix it, you will make things worse. You can rent an electric impact gun from the auto parts store for free.

Please let us know what happens.

Cheers, Ken
