Mine is inop--a short beep when it is first put in R and then a msg saying disabled. Have heard that if the reverse lights are also inop, then it is an electrical switch on the transmission. Otherwise, it is the backup sensors having failed. Now, if it is the switch on the transmission, is it easy to get to? Secondly, how difficult is it to replace the actual sensors on the bumper. Incidentally, the auto manuals you can buy don't address this system.

Your vehicle uses a digital transmission range sensor (DTR sensor) for the back-up lights as well as the parking aid and it is located on the lower left side of the transmission. Would have to disconnect battery, raise vehicle, disconnect electrical connector from sensor and replace.
