1987 Lincoln Town Car 1987 Lincoln towncar 5.0 stalls

1987 Lincoln Town Car Two Wheel Drive Automatic 161000 miles

the car usually starts first time but then stalls and won't turn over again. The fuel gauge tells you there is 1/2 tank and then quickly tells you that you are almost out of gas. I know there is atleast 6 gallons of fuel in there. I can hear the fuel pump kick on when turning. Wondering if this is one of those vehicles that the fuel pump runs off of the oil pressure sending units. Car runs for random amounts of time. Sometimes only seconds other times is ready for road? Leaning toward fuel relay. Please help here

What you need to do is actually check the fuel pump pressure when this is happening. You may hear it run, but it may not be producing enough pressure to run the engine. Also, will the car start with starting fluid when this happens?

Let me know what you find. Also, do this before replacing the relay so we know this is where the problem is coming from.

The car is a 5.0 fuel injected engine. Will check the pressure of fuel pump first though.
