It just started doing it today. It quits when I get the speed to 70 but nothing else, it's a loud knocking. When I start it the belt skips a little, I have been having trouble with it starting more often lately but when it started knocking, I was driving it like normal. I'm wondering if it's the valves or lifters making the knocking louder when I first start it.

Hi,

Do me a favor, since you indicated the belt skips, I'm questioning if it is a belt-driven accessory that is making the noise.

If you look at pic 1 below, I highlighted the belt tensioner. Turn that in a counter clockwise direction to loosen and remove the belt.

Once it is off, start the engine to see if the noise is gone. Only run the engine long enough to see if the sound is gone. 10 to 20 seconds.

Next, if it is possible, record the sound and upload it for me to hear. That may help me identify it.

Also, take a look through this link and let me know if you feel anything mirrors what you experience.

I will watch for your reply.

Take care,

I haven't been able to check with the belt off but it's sounding like it's internal.

Okay, if possible, I need you to do a couple of things. First, look through this link and let me know if anything seems to mirror what you are experiencing.

Next, try to locate where the noise is the loudest. For example, is it at the top of the engine, the bottom of the engine, or at the rear of the engine? Then, record it and upload it for me to hear, and let me know where it seems loudest.

Take care,

Joe

It was the oil I took it and had it changed yesterday. I have a leak on passenger side of the pan. Do I have to take the motor out to fix it or is there another way?

Hi,

Did the noise go away after having it serviced? How bad is it leaking?

As far as the oil pan, nothing is ever easy. You need an engine support to prevent engine movement when you loosen the left and right frame bolts and lower them to have room to remove the pan.

I attached the directions below. Take a look through them and let me know if you have questions.

Take care,

Joe
