I just had my car diagnosed by the dealer because it kept cutting off when I turned a corner. I was told that they performed a KIA scan test, which identified that spark plugs, wires, manifold, catalytic converter was needed immediately and that I might need oxygen sensor and warm up catalytic converter. This was estimated at $2300.

My question is: Is it worth paying this amount of money to repair this car. I have performed all of the required maintenance on this vehicle since I purchased it brand new in 1998.

Hi:
Which manifold? Also, the other items are not that hard to do if you work on your own car. You may have 300 into it for the things other than the manifold. Also, plugs and wires won't cause the car to die when turning.

Let me know.

Thank you for your reply. I was told that the condition of the catalytic converter would cause the worn part to heat up and cause the vehicle to catch fire. When I inquired about the parts from locations other than the dealer, I was given a laundry list of parts (over $1000 worth) that were needed to replace the catalytic converter, and install a oxygen sensor and a warm up catalytic converter, estimated repair cost at the dealer was $2300 exluding the sensor and and warmup catalytic converter.

To answer your question, I believe that both the complete converter system including the pipes, gaskets, nuts needed to be replace.

Since my posting, I have donated the vehicle to a group of young men in Clinton Maryland who are in the startup stage of a business refurbishing junked vehicles.
