Engine Performance problem
2002 Kia Rio 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 65000k miles

Hello, I have a problem with my Rio losing power and stalling while driving in ho weather for an hour or so. It has a very strong smell when this happens. Have replaced oxygen sensor. Any help would be appreciated. Regards Pikey

Its like feul vapour but not as strong. I was wondering if the fuel could be vaporising in the feul line. I am mechanicly minded but this has got me stumped. I had a Holden Rodeo 1992 petrol did pretty much the same thing, replaced oxy sensor fixed the problem. Have also had Rio back to the dealer but they test it cold and cant find anything wrong, they replace fuel filter and give it back. Goes like a bullet in weather under 35 degrees celsius. I live in western NSW Aus and it gets up to 45 degrees plus in summer. Thanks for any help, I am in the process of making a donation it will take a few days to go through PayPal. Regards Pikey

Hi there,

I would start with checking fuel flow and pressure as if the flow is down it will be aerated and this would tend to vaporize in hot weather, look at this.
