Hey, Medic (or Doc to me)

Was Medevac'd from Vietnam. I researched the Park-No Start on three different Jeep forums, until I found this one today. Whew! I'm so glad, because what the Jeep dealership suggested would have cost me an arm and a leg! I had been experiencing an engine light, that had been diagnosed as an exhaust leak, most likely stemming from the gas cap (I own a 2010 Jeep Wrangler Mountain Unlimited, 4DR 4WD, 3.8L, with automatic transmission.) I paid out the nose for an OEM gas cap from the dealership but the engine light condition did not clear. When the Park-No Start condition started, I forgot about the exhaust leak condiiton and focused on the Park-No Start condition. Taking the advice that you gave Ricks97, I bought a new battery. Most the exhaust leak and Park-No Start conditions cleared! Thanks, Doc!

You be sure to come back on here if you get stumped with another Jeep solution waiting to happen.

Next time, a nice Jeep pic would look nice on your thread!

Battery has a full charge, both battery cables, good? Did you track the positive battery connections to follow the voltage. I haven't looked at your wiring, yet? There is always the wiring--fusible links--whatever.

Just to add, you mentioned ignition switch, note the wiring. The wires going into ignition switch at the top are hot all the time. One wire is red, the other is pink with a black tracer, check for voltage.

The wires coming off the bottom of switch in the diagram go hot with the ignition switch in various positions, start--run--acc--whatever. Note the wire colors, check for voltage.

The info I looked at was for jeep wrangler sport. For voltage on red wire, check fuse 3--30amp, underhood power distribution center. Not only check the fuse, check for voltage on the fuse circuit.

Aftter driving the jeep for approx 15 miles and stopping to fill up for gas the jeep would not start. I had power to accessories etc. But, engine would not crank. Hours later it turned over with no problems. Battery power indicates power about is good. Not great but good. Friends are saying it could be something got wet, to the fuel pump. To a starter problem. Any clues.

If you hear one kind of loud clunk from the starter but it doesn't crank the engine, suspect worn contacts in the solenoid. This is very common with the little silver Nippendenso starters. The contacts can be replaced, but most people just replace he entire starter.

If this is the problem, just keep cycling the ignition switch between "run" and "crank". It will start eventually. This problem will get progressively worse over time.

If the red wire at ignition switch, has no voltage. I'd replace the red wire from underhood fuse box for the proper fuse to ignition switch. Could be problem with wiring from underhood fuse box to ignition switch?

I'd have to check voltage on the red wire, hopefully we're talking about the same wire?

I have a new battery, new starter, still will not start. U turn the key and u get a click, then nothing. All lights, gages just go out. Disconnect the battery, reconnect the battery and the same thing happens. I can however jump start the jeep. Once I turn it off, the same thing happens, just a click sound.

Hi Fritz,

Check the Negative Cable at the Block make sure it is clean and tight.

If after cleaning and tightening the cable same thing then try connecting a jumper cable from the battery negative to the block somewhere and see what happens.

Also look for ground straps that may go from the hood to the engine or from frame to engine. These ground cables being bad or broken can cause your problem.

Post findings here in forum.

Are you saying you can start it with jumper cables? Make sure the battery cables/wires are all clean and tight on both ends.

Do you have a voltmeter? Can you take a reading across the battery posts, voltage reading, with everything turned off.

If those readings are ok, leave the meter leads hooked-up on the battery, have a helper turn the key to crank, what happens to the reading?
