I was driving two days ago on a dirt road in Mississippi at night and I was unfamiliar with the road and it was very dark.I was in the middle of the road and I suddenly fell into what I will call two "ruts" in the road and they were filled with water. The water splashed up really high and it covered my windshield with really muddy water. Turned on the wipers drove about another 100 feet and the jeep cut off and has not run since. It wont stay running. I got it to run, idle for about 25 seconds yesterday but it was idling very weakly, keeps cutting off. The so-called mechanics I know say its the fuel pump, is there anything that could be wrong that's simpler and cheaper than the fuel pump? Thanks and Help. Please

Scan for codes and check fuel pressure with a gauge. Something like amodule may have gotten wet and has now been destroyed due to the water. But those are basic tests to see what is wrong. If this is a 4.0L six the harness gets worn at rear of engine by a stud and that can cause it as well as the wires wear through and ground out so would need repair.
