I have a jeep compass
the battery keeps getting corosion on the terminals
the positive terminal actualy coroded all the way apart.

I removed and replaced both terminals. Cleaned completly all parts and battery chamber. Had battery checked at Kragen Auto ( good ). Reinstalled with felt washers, dialectric greased both leads including nuts & bolts. It has been ten days.

This morning the car would not start. I checked the battery and the corosion has begun to return. I checked the leads and both were firmly attatched.

what is causing the corosion? What should I check?

Hi there, check for an over charging alternator, excessive out gassing of the battery or even a small crack in the battery case or leaking cell cap, clean with a mixture of warm water and bi-carb soda, use an old tooth brush to get all the corrosion off, and coat with petroleum jelly or a good anti corrosion spray.
