i have got a 1979 cj7 with a 304 and it keeps wearing the end of my cam gear that my distribtor runs on and makes it jump time what is my promblem

Need to very whether the right distributor is installed in your 304. If it is too short, it would wear gears due to irregular meshing. Also, a bent distributor shaft cause case the gear to misalign and wear quickly.
