Engine Mechanical problem
2002 Jeep Cherokee 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic

My wife 2002 jeep cherokee has been a great car, but recently the car has started to idle up real high everytime you start it. The cars airconditioner fan switches from the de frost vents to floor vents to regular vents not in that order but it does this on its on . This all started around the same time I'm assuming its because of some air flow sensor. I would also like to know if this something I coulud fix myself.

I think the high idle is because of a vacuum leak, and the vacuum leak is at the mixing doors, because I believe vacuum helps to control the movement of the vents thus causing the switching of the vents when you start it

Sorry it took so long to reply, I had to update my account. The check engine light is on after getting it checked to see why it was on.I was told by the two technician that it was on because the gas cap was not tightened. After tightening the gas cap til it clicked about fifty times i'm still at square one.

Well, it turns out that the gas cap was good. If I turn the vehicle on and turn the A/C on and off repeatedly then it changes the way the vehicle idles.I dont know if it suppose to do that or not it seems as if the dealership is clueless.

The mixing doors are behind the dash, sometimes you can access them by going underneath the passenger side dash, also there are little vacuum hoses that go through the firewall, to the doors them selves, so if there is a hole or crack in one of those hoses, then you will have a problem, even a misfire.
