JEep Grand Cherokee, PS pump has been totally replaced with re-built pumps 4 times in 6 months. Replaced 08-15-2010, left on trip pulling trailer (3439 lbs) hitch wt 364 lbs, and are in Rawlins Wy having the pump replaced again. The first time Firestone said it was a bad pump, the 2nd time it was the hose that ran from the front to the back of the vehicle that was bad, which destroyed the pump, the third time (new mechanic) said there is a "history" of ps pumps going bad on jeeps, the guy in Rawlins said same. Is there anything we can do or any different type of set up we can get to keep this from happening? Is there any type of heavy duty pump that could (or should) be used? We are on a 2 wk trip to yellowstone and are scared to death now.

Hi there,

Thank you for the donation,

I have not heard of a particular problem with the pumps, normally the only constant problem you see is a self inflicted one, but over tightening drive belts(if manually adjusted) your transmission repairer may be able to supply and fit an in line filter, but apart from that thereare no real problems to report.
