1996 Jeep GC - Put key in the ignition- nothing, no dash lights or gauges. Car has lights and remote locks working. Do I need to replace the ignition switch? Thanks

"HI - thanks for the response- I replaced the starter switch- no luck- where should I look next - all the fuses look ok - no visable breaks- You mentioned the starter- would a bad starter or solinoid keep my dash lights from working when the key is in the on or acc. position? Thanks again"

Starter switch = ignition switch?

The two problems may or may not be related.

For the gauges:

Gonna have to look beyond a visable break, but find continuity loss.

Start at the basics. Find the fuse for the gauges. Pull the fuse for the gauges and swap it with another one of the same..verify this. Too many times guys get burned by not verifying the basics.

IF good,
Use a DVOM and check for battery voltage to that fuse. (with the ignition switch on.) No power?
Repair open to the battery feed. OR power from the ignition switch to the fuse block.

Here may be the tie in: (blue circle) if the two problems are related.

YEah I think I know the shop you mean, it's been there forever.

I was riding on the 23rd. Took a trip into lockport and back. It was killing me to get out!
