Hello, I'm just looking for diagrams to put the new ignition switch back in. My boyfriend has it close. But there's been a span of time since he took it out. So just need a diagram of parts of where they go when putting the steering wheel back on.

Thanks,
Brandy Clements

Hi,

I attached the directions for reinstalling the steering wheel. If you need other information on the switch, let me know. Also, please confirm if it is the ignition switch (electrical component) or the key lock assembly (where the key inserts) that is needed.

Take care,

Joe

Hello, thank you!

We had to replace the ignition switch with the one where the key inserts. The old ignition got jammed. It would only turn so far. Then he forced it. So, it definitely needed to be replaced. Our old key had a security chip. And when we ordered the new one, they told us it had the chip. But the new keys do not. So, he's got it almost back together but it's not turning over yet. The lights and bells and whistles come on. So, we aren't sure if the non-security key is going to make it not work.
Do you know anything about that by chance too.

Thank you

Hi,

The ignition key for vehicles which are equipped with the PASS-Key II system which consists of the following components, a typical square ignition key. And a resistor pellet. If the vehicle does have a passkey system, a blank key won't work to start the vehicle.

Once everything is back together, turn the key to the on position. If the anti-theft light stays on and it won't start, turn the key off and then back on. Allow it to sit in the run position for approximately 10 minutes to see if the light goes off. If it does, see if it starts.

Let me know what you find or what happens.

Joe

Oh, my goodness, thank you so much!
I'll send you a picture of my key. I'm pretty sure it's got the passcode you're talking about.

Brandy, you are very welcome. If we find the vehicle won't start and does have the pass-key system, you will likely need to have this done at a dealership, a locksmith, or a shop that has the software to allow the vehicle to relearn a new key. You will need to have your key (the new one) cut into a new key with the resister pellet.

Also, and it has been some time, you may need to have the shop identify the passkey code from the powertrain control module. Ugh! Anything to make it a bit more difficult.

If this is the case, you may be able to hold the original key against where the lock cylinder is located to start the vehicle. But, if you remove it to drive, I suspect it will shut down.

Let me know.

Joe

Hi,

Yes, that has the register; thus, it has the pass-key system. I'm sorry. I wish I had better news.

Even if the new lock cylinder would have come with a resister key, it still would have needed programmed.

If you look below, it explains how to simply add a "new/additional" key. Don't lose your original key. It is needed to be able to reprogram the new resister key that is cut to fit the new lock cylinder.

Let me know what I can do to help.

Joe
