My car will not start and I know it is the ignition lock cylinder because security light is on and it will not crank up. My question is, is there any way I can get the car started to drive it over to the mechanic?

Security light being on does not mean it is the lock cylinder. It means the anti-theft system does not see the correct key. Usually on that VATS system it means one of the small wires that reads the key has broken or the VATS unit has a problem.

If you have more than one key, try it first. If that does not work you will need a tow as there is not any type of bypass built into the system (would not make a very good anti-theft item if they had a built in easy bypass).
