IDrive issue with wrong size wheels

Hi, I have an E71 X6 2008 my rims are 22 inch and recently the iDrive has been having a fit which means the car judders at low speed in 1st and 2nd gears. Can I update the iDrive to stop this happening I know it is the wheels as I recently put 20-inch rims on while my wheels were refurbished, and the juddering stopped instantly? I also asked a BMW engineer who told me it was the wheels.

Hello,

Are those aftermarket wheels?
If so, did they come with hub centric rings?
If the wheels center bore is not the exact size/fit for your vehicle it will have similar issues as you are having.
Usually there are rings that can be installed on the wheel hub for it to have the correct match.

Also, since when putting on factory wheel the issue went away it is likely related to the wheels not being the correct fitment.

HI, thanks for the reply.

There are rings fitted to the hub.

Just to update you, when I bought the car a couple of years ago the wheels were on the car and it didn't judder, the juddering started 6 months or so ago and I can't understand what changed, the tires were all replaced soon after I got it, and everything was fine then.

I am wondering if the iDrive can be re-programmed or something so the system accepts the non-standard wheel set up?

So, if the issue started after a while, it could be due to tire wear. Have you checked the tires for uneven wear or spots?
Also, might want to check the balance of the wheel/tire.

I know it will allow your to reset the TPMS but don't think it has the option for change the wheel size.
Still this wont explain why it worked normal for all this time.
