1998 Hyundai Sonata 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic 112000 miles
after removing the cylinder head I notice that the pistons top is scared by the valves and I would like to know should the pistons be changed or will I be taking a big risk ?

Its a roll of the dice, depending on how hard the valves hit and where they hit. If they hit towards the center of the piston the pistons may not be hurt, but if they hit towards the edges, the ring landings could be damaged which will cause them to stick in the pistons and not seal properly in the cylinder.
