I recently bought a '84 crx ls, it has the ew1, 1500 engine in it with 160, xxx miles on it. The gal I got it from could not get it to start, after getting it home and looking in to it a bit, I replaced the coil with an old '89 mopar 4cyl coil I had laying around, I found that a few of the vaccuum line had been connected wrong, and corrected them, the plugs, cap rotor, cam timing and ing. Timing all look good, all cylinders have between 135 and 150 lbs of compression. It takes some time to get it to fire, but it does, but my main question is when im driving if I give it too much gas(just about 50% throttle) it dies. As well as if the rpms get above 2500 it starts spitting and sputering and loses power- any ideas?

Check the fuel pressure both at idle and mid throttle with and without the pressure regulator.

Also test the oxygen and intake air temperature sensors. Also the power valve control solenoid

Also check for a blocked exhaust system
