Power Windows

98 Honda Civic with 85,000 miles. Power windows in the front of the car are suddently not working properly. They move up and down very slowly and the driver's side window will stop until manually pushed. The window on driver's side also makes a crunching noise. Meanwhile, back two windows seem to be working fine. Any advice? I know I'll probably have to take it in to the dealer, but as a single woman I feel the need to arm myself with some knowledge beforehand. Thanks!

This is a common issue on the civics. When one or both of the fron windows bind, it usually indicates a bad window regulator, and the glass channel is not seated correctly in the window channel. The fix is to replace the window regulator and reinstall the glass run channel.
If you have a 2 door, then the part for the left door should be around $185 plus 0.6 of one hours mtc to replace it. If the shop rate is $90, then labor should be around $55. So, I would say at the least your repair bill should run around $240. Of course that can go up if other items are damaged.
It may not be the best of news for you, but atleast you should have an idea of what to expect.
