Honda civic ek3, vtec, 71000 mileage, 1998

in the mornings (cold start), on reverse, the idle fluctuates (750 to 1500 and back again). Sometimes it settles quilcky, other times I need to reverse before idle settles.

changed all below with no success:
I have changed the idle air controller, serviced the trottle body, completed diagnostcs, checked for vacuum leaks, tried a new computer unit (brain box) as well as cvt transmission computer box. No problems were found.

the last thing I need to try, I was told is the transmission change, a problem with solenoid.I am not sure since this one is major. Please assisst

Would you say the engine is surging and that it really only does this when the engine is cold? It disappears when the engine is warm right? Have you made sure the coolant is full and then bled the system of air? This is commonly caused by vac problems or on the throttle body, the air flow sensor.

Its is correct that the engine only surges when cold,
the system is free of air, coolant is full, there is no air flow sensor on my model civic. There was a MAP sensor which I changed after your advice, however the problem continues.

My mechanic says the next move should be to check or replace grounding wires.

Any other assisstance is appreciated.
