On my 1994 Civic the air conditionning is not working. When I turn it on it blows air and everything but it is not cold. I'm told that I need to refill the AC with gas. What is this gas and what is its purpose, and how much does it cost to refill and how long will it last?
Also how do I know that the mechanic has filled it all the way and not just partially.

Thanks

the freon is a coolant like a refrigerator has freon. you can get a recharging kit from a local parts supply store, follow all the instructions. there are instruction for adding the freon. that should take care of the problem as long as you do not have a leak. sometimes vehicles need to be recharged but should last a while as long as there is no leak.

Thanks for the info, I'm gonna follow your advice and fill it up and see if that works. However I don't have access to a kit like the one you're talking about since I'm not in the country. All I have is the car mechanic who told me in very broken english that I need gas. He brought out some kind of a tank with a hose and a gage at the end of the hose. He plugged into one of two entry points and said that it was empty.
What I need to know before refilling it from him is how he can tell from reading the gage that it's empty and how DO I TELL THAT HE FILLED IT ALL THE WAY UP. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks
