1997 Honda Civic Oil Consumption

Oil sending unit does not seem to work. Heard funny sounds a month ago- brought car to shop- nearly out of oil. I change oil every 5000 miles. They added 3 qts oil, then I checked four weeks later, and oil down one quart. No visible smoke from exhaust, no leaks under car. Are valve stems work out? Rings? With these miles, is it worth fixing?

Are you changing the oil yourself? Is it possible you're overtightening the oil filter?

You may have a hole in the oil pan or something under the hood. Maybe throw a piece of cardboard under the hood and check in the morning.
