I have a 94 honda automatic 4cyl lx. It recently started overheating. There is about 120k mi. Only one fan is working. The airconditioning hasnt worked in years so I dont know if that other fan is supposed to come on. If not what should I check next?

Hi there,

The second fan is for the A/C so don't worry about that. Is it using coolant? If so you will have to get the system pressure tested, (this takes a few minutes) if the coolant is OK, I would be checking the thermostat to see if it is opening. Is the car running rough? If so this may be an indication that there is a problem in the cylinder head, this combined with coolant loss may indicate a head gasket problem or a cracked head.

One last thing I forgot to mention, check that the radiator is not blocked, running a hose through it wont tell you if some of the cores are blocked, it will have to be cleaned professionally.
