Hi, I have a 2000 honda accord lx v4 with 62000 miles on it. I was adding engine oil to my car when I noticed a black dry kinda sticky substance (dry engine oil maybe?) Around the edges of the cover of head gasket compartment. I had my friend look at and he said the gasket probably need to be replaced. I did some research online about the symptoms of a blown/leaked head gasket, but my car has none of the symptoms(over heating etc) listed and I haven't had any problem wheneva I'm driving it thus far.

Thank you

Hi there,

It sounds like you are referring to the valve cover gasket. This is the top most cover plate that is visible, I would wash down and check that the bolts on top that secure it down are tight, (do not over tighten) Keep an eye on it and if it is still leaking, have it replaced.
