When I drive my rear driver's side wheel gets very hot and and slight smoke emits from it.

Caliper may be seized or the pads are not moving as they should. Pull the caliper and get a look. See if the piston goes back in as it should.
OBviously driving this in this condition will cause more problems. I would anticipate the rotor has probably been distempered.
