I drove to work with no problem. After work the car will not start. Yesterday, I did notice that I left the trunk door open which has a light, left on for about 4 hours. I did not have a problem starting the car today. I have tried to jump start the car but nothing the engine just tries to start which is starts to make a crumpling noise.

What could it be?

Get a carb cleaner and spray into the carb or the throttle body on an EFI. Did it start and die? If not disconnect a sparkplug wire or 2 and ground it to the engine -have helper crank engine over-do you have a snapping blue spark? If so-you have a fuel problem, check the fuel pressure to rule out the fuel pump/pressure regulator and listen to the injector/s are they pulsing or hook up a noid light. No snapping blue spark continue to troubleshoot the ignition system-power input to the coil/coil, distributor pick-up coil, ignition control module, cam and crank sensors-

If both fuel and spark is present-check the valve and ignition timing, this will lead you to problems with compression and valves opening and closing at the wrong time/broken or jumped timing belt/chain

I think you can forget the last sentence left by rasmataz. If your timing belt has jumped or broken, your car WILL NOT START--EVER! At least until the belt is replaced. Sorry that I don't have any solution, tho. Hopefully you will get some input from someone who had exactly the same problem and got it fixed.

Hi msmeredith,

You read it wrongly. The engine now cannot start at all so the last part is still applicable.

Lol -Mr. Low if people will just listen but there's always a good uncertified DIY and a Parts Changer-

It takes 4 ingredients to get an engine to fire up SPEED/COMPRESSION/FUEL/IGNITION

If we listen we all learn

BTW Mr. Low you're the Honda expert in here-You should know with 45yrs of experience
