My gas hand goes down when I apply the brakes and it does not return to where it started. I have a engine check light on and code p1457nfailed vent soleniod, failed purge soleniod, or vapor canister saturated. Will this cause my car to eat up gas excessivly.

When was the last time the engine was tuned?
When the CEL is showing, the PCM could work in backup mode for some sensors and that can cause increase in fuel consumption.
