I just purchased a beautiful 93 Accord EX with a transmission problem. When you go from park to reverse mostof the time, it makes a "Clatter" noise. Does not sound like metal, but more like plastic. I had my mechanic pull off the middle console (the gear select area), and examine all the moving parts. According to him, everything looks just fine, linkage cable is tight, bushings are good, etc. There have been times whewn after having it in reverse, making the noise, puttingit into park, and still makes the noise. If you really easy when moving the selector, it will go into reverse just fine. Question is, could this be some that has to do with inside the transmission, but could be repaired without replacing?

Thanks,
Greg

Hi,

If you also get a whining noise while reving the engine in Neutral, then most probably the nut holding the one way clutch is loose. Remove the end cover of the trans to check.
