Electrical problem
1993 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 368, k miles

We have a 93 Honda accord and uptil this artic cold weather it ran great. However when the weather dropped to single digits the past 2 days the car would run fine for 30 minutes then would die off. The battery light came on along with all other lights. Then the car would just start back up without turning the key over. We couldn't drive over 50mph. My thought is the cold weather but since my future son in law needs to use our car I want to make sure he doesn't get "stuck" in the cold!
This car sits out in the weather all night and day.
I plan on letting it sit in a warm garage this weekend.
Any suggestions?

Hi ganderson79,

Thank you for the doation.

After driving for 30 mins, it should not be caused by the cold weather.

However you described the engine self starting after it stalled, that is something that got me stumped.

At what speed does the engiine stall?

Hi ganderson79,

At 40 to 50 mph the trans is able to push start the engnine so that makes sense.

However the cause of the problem would be a headache. Being intermittent and self starting is something not easy to detect, unless Diagnostic Trouble Codes are recorded.

Was the Check Engnine Lamp showing while driving and did you try to retrieve for DTCs?
When engnine stalled, was accelerator pedal released? Did it happen while cruising or accelerating?
