89 Honda Accord five speed with programmed fuel injection. I have a problem where the car's idle speed drops very low after the car has been operating for a few minutes. Then during acceleration it gets very sluggish until around 3500 rpm or so and then all of a sudden it takes off. The condition usually goes away after ten minutes or so. Occasionally it works fine and doesn't do it at all. Could the problem be caused by a bad PCV valve or a bad idle air control valve? Is there a way to test the IACV?

Hi ceeb,

The poor idling could be due to the EACV but the sluggish acceleration should not be.
Possible causes are
1. Bad fuel pressure regulator or clogged fuel filter.
2. Faulty Throttle position sensor
3. Faulty distributor ignition coil.
4. Faulty MAP sensor.
