My 1988 Honda Accord LX.188k has been making this GOD awful squealing noise every time I start the car, and throughout the whole time I am driving it, especially when it's cold outside (which seems to be always.I live in Colorado!) I didn't really start worrying about it until this morning on my way to work, I noticed that my steering is extremely "loose" all of a sudden. Like when I turn the wheel slightly left or slightly right, it's just loose and it doesn't move my vehicle at all. Usually I have pretty touchy steering, so this has me really freaked out right now! Please help give me some advice! I don't trust auto mechanics because when I bring my car in they think I'm some stupid woman that knows nothing about cars and they overcharge me for stuff that never gets fixed! Please email me at blondiegirly22@yahoo. Com if you have any ideas!

It is time for some new belts on the car. I would call that steering wheel problem a tight feeling. It feels so tight that nothing moves. The belts are bad and by replacing them and tightening them to the right spec you can fix this problem.

Do you have any idea how much those parts would cost and how much someone will charge for the repair?

There are two to three belts but the power steering belt is the one that is giving you problems. I would go for that one or all. About $15 a piece and maybe 25 labor. Depends on the place that is doing the work.
