Engine Performance problem
1988 Honda Accord 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

I am working on a 1988 honda accord. Replaced fuel pump/strainer, checked for vacuum leaks. It had timing belt replaced a few months ago, but the idle surges. Really high idle upon cranking then fluctuates after warming up. Occasionally stalls completely after engaging transmissionb into gear. Any HELP?

Hi lorennbl,

Is this a carburetted or fuel injected model?
Did problem occur after replacement of timing belt?

If the timing belt had been installed, it would cause the symptoms described. Get the timing belt markings checked first.

It is possible for the timing to be off and when we have a possible cause, it should be checked/tested.
